Our Vice President Cherise Sultana represented Malta as a youth delegate in the World forum for Democracy supported by the Council of Europe.
This incredible experience brought together youth representatives from across the globe, and sitting down with them to exchange perspectives on the challenges and opportunities in their countries was both eye-opening and inspiring.
Over the course of the week, we delved into critical discussions centered on:
- Safeguarding Democracy : Exploring how we can protect democratic systems and ensure they remain resilient.
- Civic Engagement and Education : Highlighting the importance of integrating civic engagement, financial literacy, and media literacy into national frameworks, while emphasising the value of giving youth a greater voice in decision-making spaces.
- Combatting Misinformation : Addressing the growing threat of fake news and misinformation, which can erode public trust and pose serious challenges to democratic processes, particularly during elections.
This forum reinforced a crucial lesson – democracy should never be taken for granted. It is a privilege that ensures our freedom, our right to vote, and our ability to contribute to shaping our futures.
