LGBTI+ Gozo

Ġbejniet Activist Academy 2021

DATE PUBLISHED: 05/05/2021

LGBTI+ Gozo launches the call for the second edition of Ġbejniet Activist Academy 2021, with the funding and support of Aġenzija Żgħażagħ through the Be Active Scheme 2021.

Founded on the principle that we are all different but equal, the organisation transformed its operation from a small gathering every few weeks to a key civil society member, rallying behind the need for equal access of services to all Gozitans on the matters like sexual health care, Trans* accessible medication and open youth services on the island.

To create more coordinated, apt and concrete work, the organization launched its first Action Plan in 2019, a 15 point blueprint reflecting the experiences of over 50 LGBTI Gozitans who participated in the first ever research survey. This research survey reiterated the need for LGBTI Youths in Gozo to have an
open safe space where they can be activists towards social causes that they are passionate about.

LGBTI+ Gozo therefore launched its first Ġbejniet Activist Academy, a weekend of online training that (albeit hindered with the COVID-19 pandemic), introduced members across all identities to the world of activism.

Through the success and growing need of activists in Gozo, LGBTI+ Gozo has now launched the second edition of Ġbejniet Activist Academy, a new innovative way for interested parties aged 16-30 to engage in voluntary work, harness new skills and ultimately become activists. This boot camp style academy will include workshops, sessions with LGBTI activist, a weekend retreat and ultimately the devising and execution of their own projects!

This Academy is funded and supported by Aġenzija Żgħażagħ through the Be Active Scheme 2021 and participates can apply below.

The Malta Health Students’ Association has been working tirelessly from the start in order to ensure that all students within the Faculty of Health Sciences receive the Covid-19 vaccination along with front liners and health care professionals.

However, we have received 𝐧𝐨 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐥𝐲 from the relevant Health Authorities and from the Ministry for Health.

Students within our Faculty have 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐝 attending placements ever since restrictions were being lifted in June. Students stepped up their 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲, by working in swabbing hubs and by working as trainees in state hospitals. Moreover, students repeatedly have had to leave home, and quarantine themselves for the sake of family members especially if they live with vulnerable people. Students have also contracted Covid-19 due to being exposed to positive patients whilst on placement.

Whilst each course manages their placement differently, one thing in common is that 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬, including those which are Covid positive. MHSA takes this time to remind you that todays students are tomorrows Health Care Professionals.
